Located in Gakuentoshi, Kobe City College of Nursing has a naturally rich campus with a warm design inspired by Florence, Italy, the birthplace of Florence Nightingale. The college, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for developing nursing skills, was founded in 1996, one year after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, and has grown alongside the recovery and revitalization of Kobe and Hyogo Prefecture. With a mission of "learning and building a healthy life together with the local community," the college is deeply engaged in education, research, and community collaboration activities. It also houses the "Ichikan Diversity Nursing Development Center," supporting hands-on nursing education with the involvement of local volunteers through programs like "Community Health Rooms" and parenting support initiatives (such as collaboration cafes).
The college launched a new curriculum, "Local Community Nursing," in 2022, recognizing the importance of addressing health maintenance and improvement within the local community. This program involves students working alongside residents in specific communities over four years, collaborating with students from other years during practical training to solve health-related issues. Core nursing courses cover disaster and global nursing, offering students opportunities to learn about community disaster preparedness and mutual assistance. The graduate program offers a Master’s for Disaster Nursing Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) and a research track dedicated to developing resilience-focused professionals.
