The Nada Gogo area in Nada Ward Kobe is one of Japan's three most renowned sake-producing regions, home to iconic brands like Hakutsuru, Kiku-Masamune, and Ozeki.
Though the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake of 1995 severely impacted the area, with traditional wooden and brick breweries damaged or lost, the sake industry has resiliently rebuilt and thrived. Nada Gogo remains a world-renowned center for sake production, pushing forward with innovative new ventures.
In 2022, a former Kenbishi brewery building was repurposed to open "Nada Gogo Sake Dokoro" a standing-bar style venue where visitors can enjoy sake from all 26 Nada Gogo breweries paired with seasonal, locally inspired dishes themed around "seasonality, locality, harmony, and fermentation."
