The WHO Kobe Centre was established as a symbol of recovery following the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, with support from the Kobe Group—a partnership of local government and businesses. As a WHO department, the Centre addresses various global health policy issues, particularly focusing on disaster and health emergency management. It serves as the Secretariat for the "WHO Global Research Network on Disaster and Health Emergency Management," collaborating with experts from Kansai with earthquake experience and specialists worldwide to enhance preparedness and emergency response research.
Locally, the Centre hosts events like the "WKC Summer School" (launched in 2022) for students interested in global health and holds forums with local experts.
This year, the Centre plans a forum in collaboration with the upcoming World Congress on Disaster Nursing in Kobe, addressing disaster and health crisis management for global experts.
